About David

David possesses a broad range of technical expertise and has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications across various fields and technologies. These include semiconductor devices and fabrication processes, integrated circuits, wireless telecommunications including 802.11xx Wi-Fi and 5G, computer software, and core and applied AI.

David also has significant experience in European patent oppositions and appeals, particularly in the fields of video encoding and wireless telecommunications. Additionally, he is adept at drafting intellectual property (IP) due diligence reports and audits, as well as infringement and validity and freedom to operate opinions.

Prior to entering the IP profession, David graduated from the University of Glasgow with a first class undergraduate Masters degree (MEng) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He was awarded the Lamb Master of Engineering Prize for achieving the highest grade point average in his year. During his MEng course, David completed an industrial placement at CERN, where he successfully designed a module responsible for monitoring the temperature of various electronic components on the Large Hadron Collider.

After completing his undergraduate degree, David obtained a PhD in III-V compound semiconductor MOS technology, also from the University of Glasgow. His research focussed on MOS gate stack technology and low damage dry etch processes for III-V compounds, which culminated in the development of a world leading InGaAs junctionless MOSFET. Following his PhD, David was employed as a postdoctoral research assistant working on antimonide MOSFET technology as part of the INSIGHT collaboration: an EU funded project with world leading partners from both academia and industry.
