James is a Senior Associate in our Engineering and Environment team. He is experienced in European patent drafting, prosecution, opposition work and providing freedom to operate opinions. James has previous industry experience and has worked closely with in-house patent teams of large multinational corporations. This experience allows him to deliver commercially relevant advice at all stages of the patent life cycle – from early stage invention harvesting, to handling granted patents as an asset and enforceable right.

Prior to embarking on a career as a patent attorney in 2014, James completed a MEng degree in Automotive Engineering at the University of Bath. He also has experience in mechanical design and research, working first in an engineering support role for a fuel cell manufacturer; and then later on a project to improve boiler efficiency in large industrial installations.

James is well placed to assist clients working across a range of engineering disciplines, but has particular experience in the sectors of automotive; aerospace; medical devices; and FMCG manufacturing and packaging. He is a qualified UK and European patent attorney.
