About Chris

Chris has over 15 years’ experience providing advice to industry-leading clients across a broad range of sectors, including information technology, media & entertainment, retail and food & drink. Clients value Chris’s “superb, timely, commercially focussed advice” and he is known for delivering the best commercial outcomes for his clients. Chris’s work focusses on trade mark clearance, registration and contentious proceedings at, and appeals from, the UK and EU Intellectual Property Offices, and overseas.

He has particular expertise of overcoming inherent registrability objections and has devised overall IP strategies for large businesses, along with worldwide brand protection and enforcement strategies.

Chris began his career at HLK in 2002 and qualified as a UK and European Trade Mark Attorney in 2009. Having left the firm that year, Chris joined a leading law practice, where he spent almost 8 years as part of the wider intellectual property team. He then returned to HLK in 2017.

Chris is a member of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and is regional Events Coordinator for the South West, with responsibility for organising CPD events in the region. He also regularly contributes case reports to the CITMA Review. In addition, he is a committee member of the International Trademark Association (INTA).
