About Owen

Owen joined HLK in 2020 after graduating from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, where he studied for a Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Owen qualified as a UK Patent Attorney in 2024, and as a European Patent Attorney in 2025.

During his time at the firm, Owen has developed a knowledge of our clients’ key technologies in a range of subject areas. He has experience of patent prosecution in circuit-level electronics (such as high-speed ADCs and DACs, power management systems, and highly accurate current and voltage sources), quantum computing (including ion trap structure, hybrid quantum-classical systems, multi-atomic object movement methods, and beam delivery systems in highly accurate photonic alignment devices), and hydrocarbon recovery, as well as grid-level power distribution systems and MEMS devices.

While studying, Owen spent a year at the university’s Malaysia campus through the GoGlobal scheme, participating in events and presentations with local industry and university connections. The scheme and events contributed to the university being awarded The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide International University of the Year.

His dissertation, written during time in industry, focussed on deriving temporal and fixed-pattern noise, such as Parasitic Light Sensitivity, from image-sensor architecture, and how computer simulation can aid with the sensor characterisation. He also received two Deputy Principle awards while studying, given to those achieving exceptional academic results.
